The Coronavirus has resulted in all of us working remotely from the comfort of our homes. Although we are not allowed to go out, we need to work to be able to make a living. And working from home is quite tricky when you consider all the distracting elements and the comfort you get when you are confined within the boundaries of your room. Completing one task at home takes double the time it would have taken us in the office. If you can relate to this, here are a few ways that you can be more productive when you work from home:
Create a professional work environment
Although it sounds like a redundant point, if you put some time into creating a work environment, you get incredibly more productive. Make your room into a workplace. Avoid anything that you don’t find in your office. And especially avoid children roaming around in your workspace. Try to sit on a work chair rather than on a couch to get a more office feel.
Have clearly defined work hours
Set clearly defined hours for work and stick to it. By making a timetable, you will get a lot of work done and still have time left for your family. Moreover, it will be easier for you to shift into office hours when the lockdown is over. If you are working on a collaborative project, set your time according to your co-workers to make the job easy. Overall, you should stick to the work hours and treat yourself as an employee during them.
Stay away from distractions
Distractions are the primary cause of lower productivity. Since offices have the least number of distractions, it is easy for us to tend to our work. Our homes, however, are filled with distracting elements, and we must resist them if we are to make any progress in our work. While it is okay to take short breaks to ease your mind, make sure you are disciplined enough to not fall for any distractions and should figure it out dealing with loneliness as a solopreneur. The best way to avoid distractions is to form a timetable for working hours and breaks. This way, your job will always be your priority. Things like tv, games, Netflix, and social media should be assigned for a certain time, and that time should come only after you have completed your day’s work.

Get organized
To be organized means to keep all the things essential to your job by your side. Whether you work on a laptop or you make graphs using pen and paper, make sure you have everything you need in your reach. Keep your essentials in one place, so you don’t have to go around the room hunting for them. If you have kids, make sure someone is watching over them while you are working, and do not allow them to meddle with your work gear.
Incorporate the best technology
When you are working from home, you would need to connect to your peers over the internet from time to time. Make sure you have all the technology you need to maintain a connection with your co-workers. Before you have started working, check your internet connection and make sure it is running smoothly and have proper voice chat and video chat apps in place in case a need arises for detailed conversation. There are multiple organizing and project management tools to help you stay up to date with your peers.
Communication
Communication is one of the most critical factors, especially when you are working from home. For those who are in a managerial position, communication with their teams helps them keep up the spirit of work. Make sure you are giving enough time to each individual of your team, so nobody feels left out and unmotivated. If you are an employee, use video or voice chat instead of email to let your superiors know that you are taking work from home seriously.
